Comcast HD Setup Issues

I have noticed on several of my friends’ Comcast setups, that their HDTV does not look so good. Very often, this is due to one of 2 issues
1) The cable connecting the digital cable box to your TV is Coaxial or old style RCA (video and audio left and right). Unfortunately, HD signals are not compatible with these older style connectors.
In order for HDTV to be seen correctly on your TV, the connections from the cable box to your TV need to be one of these 3: Component (3 cables - Y, Pb, Pr), DVI or HDMI. Now if you don’t have these inputs on your TV, you are most probably out of luck (but hopefully since you ordered HD cable you checked this already
If your TV supports HDMI connections, I recommend using it since one cable carries fully digital video and audio signals to your TV, thereby reducing clutter.
You can get inexpensive HDMI Cables here!
2) Your Comcast cable box was not set up correctly.
Depending on what type of HDTV you have, you can most probably accept signals up tp 720p, 1080i or 1080p(this number represents the number of lines of vertical resolution your TV can accept, with i and p standing for interlaced and progressive respectively, also known as scan mode). Your cable box needs to be setup to output the maximum resolution that your TV can accept. The way to do this is (these instructions assume that you have the silver Motorola digital cable box from Comcast):
a) Turn off the power to your cable box, but make sure your TV is still on. (On the Comcast supplied cable box remote hit “cable” followed by “power”).
b) With the cable box off, hit the ‘menu” button on the remote. A setup screen should appear.
c) Scroll down to the setting for “YPbPr output”, and make sure you set it to the max resolution of your TV (for my Pioneer PDP-4340HD it is 1080i).
d) Hit the “menu” button followed by “power” - hopefully you’re seeing better HD now!

[…] Maximum HDTV resolution is 1080i. Some people have reported setup problems where they do not get 1080i resoution. This is often due to a setup problem which may be addressed here: http://www.desicrazy.com/2007/11/24/comcast-hd-setup-issues/ […]
just the info I was looking for. Thank you!
my tv brand is an insignia and i cant get the comcast remote set so i can control my tv with it and ive used all the codes.
It should be controllable - please contact Comcast or you may just have to get a universal remote (they are pretty cheap), and that should solve your issue
