I want my HDTV

I am a self-professed gadget geek, and am very lucky to have a spouse who is equally enthralled by shiny, electronic things. About 4 years ago, I started getting extremely interested in HDTV and the new flat plasma TV’s that were starting to come down a little in price. After about 9 months of research, staring at models in the local stores, reading reviews, agonizing between different models and the $$$ it was going to cost, I ultimately bit the bullet and purchased a Pioneer PDP-4340HD plasma and we couldn’t be happier. The TV is working great, and it has really become a fun part of our lives.
Anyway, once we bought the TV, the immediate question was what kind of quality content could we feed to it. For us, the decision was pretty easy, especially since we weren’t able to installed satellite TV on our house due to the number of trees nearby, we went with Comcast Digital Cable with HDTV and HD-DVR. At the time, the HD content was limited to Discovery HD Theater, ESPN, INHD1 &2, local channels in HD (normally after 8pm) and the premium channels (HBO/Sho. etc) which we didn’t have. The programming looked amazing, and we learned a lot - especially for Discovery and KTEH, and it changed the way we watched TV.
Recently though, I have noticed that Comcast has added a whole bunch of new HD programming for no extra cost. This includes channels like HGTV, A&E, TBS, NFL, GOLF, USA, and more - and they all look great. A recent check on the big satellite systems shows that they too have a lot of HD content, especially DirectTV which states that they have 70 HD channels now, with that number reaching 100 by the end of the year. One thing to watch out for - if you’re interested in HD-DVR - you may have to purchase that equipment separately with some vendors.
In any case - HDTV is great, and I highly recommend it!
